The Research Of The Death Theme In Baudelaire's Poetry

Charles Baudelaire, as the leader and representative of symbolism poems, his poets, poetics and aesthetics thinkings have fairly high influence to the literature from the same age to today, and from the Europe to the whole world. Due to the originality of Baudelaire's poetry, he is considered as the initiator of modernism literature, and especially the usage of various images in his poem clearly marked as‘Baudelaire's'. This paper will use the methodology of text reading and comparative study to research the death theme in Baudelaire's poetry, and to explore the deeper implication from the perspective of aesthetics and philosophy.With the objective factors of time background, personal experience, religious influence, occultism, the influence of Edgar Allan Poe, and with the subjective factors of the poetics thinkings as the theory of Correspondences and the theory of Dual Character, this paper generally analyses the causes of death theme in his poems, on which understanding and accepting Baudelaire's poetry and aesthetics thinking are based.Instead of common research aspects of Baudelaire's poetry, this paper does not clarify the Correspondences theory, the Ugliness Appreciation etc. but is from the aesthetic perspective. First of all, from the combination of the semiotics function, the narrative structure and the symbolic function, this paper confirms the aesthetic standards of death theme of Baudelaire's poetry. Next, this paper analyses the aesthetic meaning of death theme of Baudelaire's poetry in the fields of Ontology theory, Existential theory and the Transcendency.Beyond the existed research of the influence of Baudelaire's poetry on Chinese poets, this paper try to discuss the Chinese romantic poet Haizi's accept to the death theme of Baudelaire's poems, and comparatively study their death theme. Therefore,this paper improve the exploring of the death theme in Haizi's and Baudelaire's poetry,and deepen and enhance the poetic thoughts and aesthetic value of the death theme in Baudelaire's poetry.
