The translation task of Ancient China Simplified is entrusted and commissioned by the translation company and the text is an overseas sinological work which introduces ancient Chinese history. The main purpose of this translation task is to provide a reference for Chinese researchers to understand the opinion of foreign people on the Chinese history. To make researchers obtain optimal relevance through the smallest inference endeavor under the favorable contextual effect, annotated back-translation is adopted as the translation strategy.Back-translation is a process in which a text which has been translated into a given language been retranslated into SL. There are culture terms, particular characters, and particular events in the work of Ancient China Simplified. When translating culture terms, existing Chinese versions can be borrowed to make target-text readers match these terms with information that they have got already, and then they can connect these terms with their existing knowledge. The English names of particular persons are zero-translated and annotated, which can help target-text readers search relevant literature, and understand their relevance with the Chinese history. The translation method of translating particular events is literal translation and annotation, the main purpose of which is to help the target-text readers understand differences and relevance between the Chinese history and the West.Back-translation is a special kind of translation method. Most of the sinological works are the translation of Chinese works. However, what is different of this work is that the author adds his own points of view. Therefore, back-translation and annotation are determined as the translation strategy to translate the translation task of Ancient China Simplified. Therefore, different translation strategies need to be adopted according to different translation phenomenon and the needs of different readers.
