Research On Interpretation Strategies Of Culture-loaded Words In Chinese Government Press Conferences From The Perspective Of Skopos Theory

In the 1970s, the western scholars introduced Skopos Theory into translation theory. Vermeer divided Skopos Theory into three parts, skopos rule, fidelity rule and coherence rule. He explained the exact content of the three rules and the effect on translation activities. With further study of Skopos Theory, it becomes increasingly significant in interpreting practices. Skopos Theory, the most influential translation theory in German, is worth having a careful study.As the distinctive purpose of government press conferences, the author aims to have research on interpretation strategies of the culture-loaded words based on Skopos Theory. The author has summarized the main content and status of Skopos Theory at home and abroad, the content of government press conference interpretation and the culture-loaded words. With the specific analysis of Chinese government press conferences, the author chooses the interpreting cases of culture-loaded words in Chinese Two Sessions in recent years as study objects. In accordance with the relevant materials, the author mainly has case studies on culture-loaded words in government conferences, which include allusions, poetry and modern words. Through the study, the author discusses the practical significance of Skopos Theory in interpreting activities.The author mainly researches on the interpretation strategies of culture-loaded words under the guidance of skopos rules, fidelity rules and coherence rules. Through the case study, it can be concluded as follows. Since the exact content and rules are varied, interpreters can adopt proper interpretation strategies according to the Skopos Theory. Based on the skopos rule, interpreters can adopt the interpretation strategies such as literal translation and explanatory translation. Based on the fidelity rule, interpreters can adopt the interpretation strategies such as free translation, division and translation. Based on the coherence rule, interpreters can adopt the interpretation strategies such as free translation and amplification. Through the research, the author hopes this thesis would provide some references for interpreting learners.
