The Textual Research On The Walls And Gates Of The Palace Of The Southern Song Dynasty In Lin'an

The capital of The Southern Song Dynasty,which is lasted for about one hundred years,is located in Hangzhou.It is the most prosper and glory period in the history of Hangzhou city.The imperial city of the Southern-Song Dynasty is located in the east of Phoenix Mountain foot,the south of the capital.The textual research is so difficult due to the complex topography,the lack of archaeological data and the fact that the old capital is exactly covered by the modern city.This thesis focuses on the research of four walls and gates of the palace.According to the related historical materials,archaeological discoveries,spot investigation and the satellite map,we can calculate and speculate the length and location of the four walls,the location of the gates,even the architectural form of them.In conclusion,the south,north and east walls are straight,but the west wall is wavy because it is along the mountain and the length of the four walls is about 5000 meters.And in addition,it is confirmed in this thesis the location and even the architectural form of the Lizheng gate,He'ning gate and Donghua gate.It is argued in this article if there is any gate in the west wall and its proper name and location,and the conclusion is that there is indeed a gate in the west wall and its name should be Xihua.
