In this paper,I want to discuss a thesis which has been widely accepted in the philosophy of language, and has been resisted by many philosophers in recent years. The thesis, which is called"Propositional Multitasking",is that there are a kind of theoretical entities(propositions)that play an array of theoretical tasks. This paper concentrates on two of them:propositions are the contents of assertions, and propositions are sentences' meaning.Propositional Multitasking thesis is not only widely acknowledged, but also assumed by many philosophical argument. Thus,if this thesis is false, then many philosophical positions have to be reexamined. With the rise of sciences of languages recently, philosophers of language began to study the notion of "meaning" in a theoretical way. Some believe that the constraints on the notion of meaning, added by the theory of meaning, are very different from the constrains on the notion of content or proposition(the Operator Argument).I think that the alleged constraints on the meaning are unnecessary and even incorrect, and if we abandon those constraints,we can still characterize the notion of meaning. My point of departure is Jeffery King's strategy in his(2003).I summarized two conclusions which are crucial to refuting the Operator Argument. In the final part of the paper,I considered some objections to King's strategy that I found in literature and in the course of replying to some of them,I make some modifications to King's theory.I,therefor, defend the traditional position.
