A Memetic Analysis Of Code-switching In Computer-mediated Communication's Netspeak

Language,as the most important human communication and thinking tool,is the product of society and the basis of civilization and communication.In the late 20 th century,the birth of the internet promotes the development of netspeak.Netspeak is influenced by the features of the internet like liberalization,virtualization,electronization,globalization,infinity,convenience,interactivity and so on.Now all medias are the carrier of netspeak,and the changes of the carrier often lead to changes of language style and stylistic features.Netspeak is gradually becoming a kind of internet communication tool.People's social life are impacted by the speed of netspeak's transmission and the extent of coverage in an unprecedented degree.The thesis first collects and reorganizes some popular netspeak in computer-mediated communication(CMC)in recent years and regards netspeak as corpus and analyze some problems.Based on memetics and code-switching,the thesis analyzes some deep reasons why some netspeak are popular with greater communication effects and influences while some other netspeak are short-lived.The research shows that“strong meme” plays a significant role in the popularization and spread of netspeak,and then points out the positive and negative effect of netspeak on language itself and even society,and finally proposes how to guide netizens to use netspeak correctly.The netspeak in CMC has inevitably become an important part in our daily life.However,the negative impact of netspeak on society can not be ignored.Based on the method of literature survey and comparative analysis,this thesis uses relevant literature and theoretical works,what's more collects corpus in recent years through a variety of ways,and uses a large number of fresh examples to analyze the meme relationship by comparing a variety of netspeak.This thesis aims to arise the extensive concern of social public to the netspeak in CMC,especially the relevant departments and educators.It expects that more people will pay attention to and study the netspeak,and then guides people to use it properly.Finally netizens can create a harmonious and healthy internet environment.This thesis contains three parts: introduction,main body and conclusion.The main contents are as follows:The first part is introduction.It sums up the netspeak at home and abroad,introduces its shortcomings,research significance,research purposes and research methods,what's more,points out the innovation of this thesis.The second part is the main body which includes four chapters:Chapter One is about related literature review.This chapter introduces related theories of netspeak in CMC,memetics and code-switching and then introduced the related meme theory into the netspeak in CMC.Then it analyzes the phenomenon of code-switching in netspeak,and points out the key point and innovation of the research.Chapter Two mainly analyzes related theories about meme including three aspects,first of all,this part analyzes the criteria of successful memes and the usage of strong meme and memeplex in netspeak in CMC;And then analyzes memes' life cycles including assimilation,retention,expression and transmission;Finally,based on the analysis of corpus in CMC,this part explores two forms of netspeak in CMC.Chapter Three mainly analyzes how to apply memetics in netspeak in CMC,and uses related theories to analyze code-switching phenomenons in the netspeak.Firstly,it analyzes the classification of code-switching in netspeak in CMC including mixing of foreign language,homophony,Chinese dialect,abbreviation,numbers and emoticons;then,this thesis combine with a large number of corpus to explain the life cycle of code-switching phenomenon in netspeak;then,according to netspeak corpus in CMC,this part analyzes three characteristics of strong meme and explains what kind of memes can become strong memes and how these memes spread;finally,this thesis analyzes some criteria for the successful use of code-switching in the netspeak and explains what kind of memes can attract hosts' attention and meet people's cognitive or communicative needs.It aims to achieve the purpose of communication successfully.Chapter Four mainly analyzes existing problems,the number of netspeak grow fast and this phenomenon must be some problems to challenge language specifications.People have different attitudes towards netspeak in CMC.Some people hold a positive evaluation,while the other side is more conservative.According to these problems,this thesis analyzed the pragmatic value and put forward relevant and effective measures to regulate netspeak in CMC.It aims to guide people to take a correct attitude towards netspeak and puts forward relevant effective measures to regulate netspeak.The conclusion part is summary.It mainly sums up the main findings of the study,the main research significance,limitations of the research and the future research recommendations.The thesis further explains the significant position of meme in linguistics by analyzing the corpus of CMC.The relationship between code-switching in CMC and meme is good to make up for their own deficiencies.In conclusion,the thesis can better analyze the code-switching phenomenon in CMC from the perspective of memetics.
