A Study On The Statements Of Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games Candidate City Presentation-From The Perspective Of Rhetoric Criticism

With the increasing integration of global economy and the influence of international communication,the whole world has become a melting pot covering every aspect.The modern Olympic Games is not only a sporting event,but also the focus of people all over the world.The Winter Olympic Games,as an indispensable part of it,is a major international sporting event that also catches people's attention around the world.Countries would like to take this opportunity to develop national economy,promote their own culture,and set up national images.Therefore,they will strive to gain the host right of the Winter Olympic Games.The reasons why Beijing could beat Almaty in 2022 Winter Olympic Games Candidate City Presentation and gained the hosting right is worth discussing.Based on the model drawn the theoretical framework of Bitzer's and Burke's rhetorical situation,and Aristotle's three appeals,the thesis intends to construct analyses of the presentation statements of Beijing bidding team,namely,the speeches of Wang Anshun,Yang Lan,Yu Zaiqing,Yao Ming,Zhang Haidi,Liu Peng,Yang Yang,and Li Nina.The Major findings are as follows:Firstly,in the study of the statements of Beijing from the perspective of rhetorical situation,Beijing has better control of the elements of rhetorical situation.Beijing made an overall strategy when planning 2022 Winter Games,chose diverse speakers with identities,and gave practical and specific measures on natural conditions to compensate for venue defects.Secondly,in the analysis from the perspective of the three appeals,Beijing flexibly and skillfully used logos,pathos and ethos in the speeches of the speakers to win the identification and acceptance of the audience.Finally,this study attempts to implement a new model of rhetorical criticism through the above theories and to provide a systematical rhetoric analysis of Olympic Games Candidate City Presentation with the hope of benefiting the prospective bidding countries to improve their possibility for them to win the host right of Olympic Games.
