Chinese Song Poetry is the treasure of classical culture in China.By means of the exclusive poetic form and classical rhythm,Chinese Song Poetry shows the unique beauty of classical Chinese language.Up to now, many scholars have studied Chinese Song Poetry from the perspective of literature, including artistic conception, translation and writing style. However, there are few researches on Chinese Song Poetry conducted from the cognitive perspective. This thesis attempts to study Chinese Song Poetry from the cognitive perspective so as to offer a new perspective to Chinese Song Poetry analysis and appreciation. In Chinese Song Poetry, poets juxtapose various images to present artistic conception and rich emotional connotation which can't be conveyed by a single image. If two or more poetic images are juxtaposed,it can be called poetic montage. The juxtaposition of images means the conceptual juxtaposition. The conceptual juxtaposition leads to conceptual blending, which is an important way to illustrate montage. Therefore, under the guidance of Conceptual Integration Theory, this thesis analyzes the meaning construction mechanism of montage in Chinese Song Poetry step by step. This thesis testifies that Conceptual Integration Theory has strong explanatory power over the montage effect in Chinese Song Poetry. In the process of the meaning construction of Chinese Song Poetry, poetic images,as the abstract carrier of poets' emotions, trigger the cognitive mapping network models between mental spaces. Then, through the blending of mental spaces, the relations compression between mental spaces and the connection between backgrounds of poems and the literal meaning of images, the emergent meaning is created so that the emotional connotation hiding behind poetic images can be found. In general, poets borrow poetic images to express their emotions.Poetic images are imprinted with poets' emotions. If readers understand poetic images isolatedly, they can't capture the poet's creative intention. Therefore,in the process of emergent meaning production, only when these poetic images are connected with the poet's personal experiences and the background knowledge of poetry to produce mapping connection, can the connotative meaning be more explicit. In a word, this study can not only make readers understand how the meaning construction mechanism of montage in Chinese Song Poetry is operated, but also can provide a new perspective for analysis and appreciation of Chinese Song Poetry.
