With the development of Chinese Language world-promotion,international Chinese volunteer teachers have become the main force in overseas Chinese teaching.Intercultural competence is an important condition for volunteers to carry out the work smoothly.Based on the intercultural communication model established by Chen and Starosta,the article conducted a dynamic and empirical Study of thirty-one volunteer teachers in Italy.The research has following findings.(1)There are internal differences in the development of intercultural competence.In all three stages intercultural sensitivity is better than intercultural effectiveness.Respect for cultural differences,Interaction engagement and Interaction enjoyment are stronger than Interaction confidence and Interaction attentiveness.Interaction respect is stronger than the other aspects.(2)The development of intercultural competence is not significant.In three stages,only Respect for cultural showed a significant difference.(3)In all three stages,Interaction engagement is positively correlated with Interaction attentiveness.Interaction enjoyment is positively correlated with Interaction confidence.Interaction enjoyment is positively correlated with Behavioral flexibility.Interaction enjoyment,Interaction confidence and Interaction attentiveness are positively correlated with Interaction relaxation.(4)The overseas experience has influence on some aspects of the sensitivity and effectiveness.(5)Working and living environment,language barrier,cultural difference and individual differences are main factors that restrict the weak items of sensitivity and effectiveness.The results of the study provide us some implications about how to improve the intercultural competence of the volunteers:Increase volunteers' intercultural awareness;improve the ability to compare cultural difference;Cultivate their competence to use foreign language;Promote the expansion and deepening of their social network;Cultivate a multicultural personality.
