The Cognition Of Gender Influence The Children's Pitch

This paper does an exploratory study to explore 1) Toddlers' responses differ towards male parent and female parent on pitch.2) The cognitive level of gender alters toddlers' pitch to their parents.3) The change of toddlers' pitch in 3 years.Study recorded audio of toddlers of 3 to 6 years old interacting with their parents in nature context. Study comprises two parts. First part recorded toddlers' free communication with parents. Then they received interviews of cognitive level of gender from male parent and female parent respectively in part two. The result of phonetic analysis shows 1) no significant difference on pitch between toddler's talks to male parent and to female parent,2) higher pitch in the conversion between inconsistent gender,3) positive correlation between parents' pitch and toddler's, and 4)no difference on pitch whether toddler's cognitive level of gender is mature or not.4) Compared with 3 years ago, the change of toddler's talks is observed. First, in previous studies, there's significant difference on pitch between toddler's talks to male parent and to female parent. On the contrary, no significant difference was found in this study. Next, in contrast to previous study in which lower pitch was found to be used when girls interacted with mothers, higher pitch was founded in this study. Thirdly, the gap between toddlers' and parents' pitch was bigger than 3 years ago.
