This is a report on translation of Chapter Seven of The Rhetoric of RHETORIC, an academic writing by Wayne C. Booth (referred to as Booth). This chapter mainly depicts that we are flooded with news distortions in our daily life, often just careless but too often deliberate, which are neglected for a variety of reasons. Booth points out that the reason for this situation is media corruption. Besides he explores the media corruption and finds out four motives for corruption. Finally, he warns us that reflection and deliberation should be made on the news coverage.Guided by functional translation theory, the author mainly adopts the skopos theory, the core of functional translation theory. To be specific, skopos rule, coherence rule and fidelity rule are the main rules of skopos theory, so the author analyzes the translated text from the perspective of words, long sentences and text under these rules. Then the author analyzes the characteristics of academic translation as well as points out problems of author's translation process. The author believes that translators should fully understand the professional knowledge, and command good skills of language expression. Besides, the author also summarizes the shortage of author's translation and thinks that academic translation is highly demanding for translators. A qualified translator must have interdisciplinary knowledge and ability. In conclusion, the author hopes to accumulate some experience through this translation practice, so as to improve the translation ability as well as sufficiently realize the importance of translator's cultural quality in the aspect of theory.
