In recent years, a succession of splendid and magnificent documentaries has sprung up, coloring and enchanting the film circle. However, most works, especially the historical and cultural documentaries, have focused on performing the function of cultural communication and bringing the historical value into full play. They have rarely presented the life and living situation of the common people from a civilian perspective, or showed any humanistic concern. With the Chinese opera documentary as a point of penetration, the paper carries out a case study of the author's graduation works Qie Ting "Xi" Yu and probes into the difficulties of showing humanistic concern in documentary, such as dilemma of intervention, conflict between law and morals, priority of theme and merits and demerits of technology, etc. They are key points in the creation of documentary that shall be prudently weighed. As for Chinese opera documentaries, while spreading the Chinese opera culture, they focus on the actor's common life, living situation and inner world from the perspective of humanistic concern, which are of great significance that can't be ignored. Therefore, the paper proposes some practical suggestions on the expression of humanistic concern in the creation of documentaries. It's advised that the creation of documentaries shall start from the following aspects, i.e. focusing on character in theme, showing concern for inner heart in interview, highlighting the emotion in editing and adhering to the principle of authenticity; meanwhile, under the guidance of the humanistic concern principles, the creation shall devote to adding new surge of energy into the representative, profound, and humanistic works of excellence, aiming to make the works more attractive and appealing.
