The Power Of Prime Minister And The Relationship Between The Emperor And The Prime Minister In Ancient China

Since ancient China was unified by the emperor of Qin in 221 B.C.,the first feudal empire in Chinese history has been established.China,since that moment,has been ruled under the feudal regime for more than two thousand years.In this regime,power has been divided into two different parts,the power of emperor and the power of prime minister.And the two kinds are not independent of each other,but rather interaction with each other.In general,the emperor as the supreme commander is the only owner of rights of decision,while by contrast the prime minister just has the rights of execution.In fact,the power of emperor has the characteristic in nature of autocracy.This means that the emperor is prone to devote himself to eliminate the power of prime minister by all means in his life to make his power uniqueness,although the prime minister always endeavors to seek more power.Therefore,the game between the emperor and the prime minister has been the essential contradictory of the Chinese feudal regime.The outcome of the game is Councilor System which is always believed as the history of the relationship between the emperor and the prime minister.In this thesis,I will manage to interpret what's the problem in the pattern of the game.This thesis has three chapters.In the first chapter,I will introduce the power of prime minister in history of China and discuss the power mode of three different periods including period of Qin and Han dynasty,period of Tang and Song dynasty,as well as period of Ming and Qing Dynasty.In the second chapter,I will describe the characteristics of the relationship between the emperor and the prime minister.And notes that the power of emperor and the power of prime minister have institutionalized features,the power of prime minister changed real power into the virtual power and it moved in circles from the inside officer toward the outside officer as the characteristics.In the third chapter,I will interpret the problem of the relationship.Points out that the power of prime minister and the power of emperor have constraints on the longitudinal,both lack of lateral restriction mechanism.
