Translation Of Government Documents Under The Guidance Of Text Typology Theory

The Text Typology Theory of Katharina Reiss is the first translation theory which gives a link between the text function and the translation method.According to Reiss,there are three kinds of text type,they are,informative text,expressive text,operative text.The translator should classify the text type before the translation practice,and adopt proper translation method in view of different text types so as to achieve the maximum text function in the translation practice.On the basis of translating The Overall Planning of North Lake Ecological Zone of Jining City(2008-2030)under the guidance of Text Typology Theory,the thesis analyzes the difficulties and sums up translating method employed in the translation practice.The Overall Planning of the North Lake Ecological Zone of Jining City(2008-2030)is the typical government document issued by the Jining government and approved by the provincial government.According to Text Typology Theory,this government document is the mainly the informative text and it also has the operative function.This thesis mainly analyzes the language features of the source text which reflect its informative function and the proper translation methods to achieve its informative function.This thesis tries to find the language features of the translated material from the lexical level,syntactic level and the discourse level and then analyze the employed translation method in the translation practice of the source text.Through the translation practice of the source text,the translator found it is mainly used to show the planning and measures of city development,so the translation principles,translation methods and strategies employed in the translation process should deliver the information of the source text exactly and fully,thus the maximum text function can be achieved.The author holds that the Text Typology Theory plays an important role in the translation of the government document,the translator should define the text type and function before the translation practice,and bear them in mind in the process of translation,so as to adopt the proper translation methods and to achieve the best text function in the target text.
