On The Death Writing Of Gabi Gleichmann's The Elixir Of Immortality

The Elixir of Immortality is the debut novel written by Gabi Gleichmann.This masterwork describes the life experience of the Spinozas,a Jewish family with thirty-six generations in Europe.Among the thousands of years of narrative time,a lot of death events are being showed to demonstrate all kinds of death modes and types in different situations.Meanwhile the meaning of death had changed subtly with the generations replaced by: the attitude and reflect of death by society has developed and changed,and the characters in the novel have their own distinctive thoughts about death and eternal life.This paper is divided into the following sections:The Death Writing conception is defined in the introduction part,to make the discussion range clear in the book The Elixir of Immortality,and to introduce the study and research about the book at home and abroad.The first chapter examines the reason why so many different death events have been written in the book,and it also takes the western literary traditions as the object to select the typical text of death writing as a contrast,so as to grasp the relationship between works and literary history.In addition,to understand the influence of the author's life on the cases of the Death Writing with the author's personal experience and individual reasons combined.The second chapter divides the numerous death events,and makes it into two parts: spiritual death and physical death.On the basis of the classification of spiritual death and physical death,the diverse death modes and death types were been figured out to expand the thinking of the Death Writing's function,and the way to beyond death in the post.The third chapter probes into the function of death writing in the text,and to analysis the effects of the structure,appreciation of the beauty,the theme and other function in the Death Writing.On the basis of the above discussion,the fourth chapter typified three characters Fernando,Ari and Shoshana and summarized three kinds of way of surpass the death.Corresponding to the way of living towards death and beyond death,and to abstract the spiritual core of author Gleichmann about his death cognition and thinking.
