Jiang Wen,as a director,made five films in all till now.They are separately "The Sunny Days"(1994),"Devils on the Doorstep"(2000),"The Sun Also Rises"(2007),"Let the Bullets Fly"(2010),"One Step Away"(2014).Relying on these five films,he is unrivaled in Chinese movie industry.Each of his work is marked with Jiang Wen's label.From the perspective of theme connotation,each of his movie has a deep sense of tragedy and a sense of reality hidden behind a story of absurd and comedy.From the perspective of aesthetic style,he insists on breaking the rules and pursuing the distinctive characteristics.He is good at utilizing innovative performing method.One of the biggest characteristics of his movie is that the theme is actually a tragedy in the form of subjectivity,absurd humor and comedy.This paper is a study of Jiang Wen's movies from the perspectives of their theme connotation and aesthetic style.All the four themes of Jiang Wen's movies are inner tragedy set off by apparent humor.He created a tragic sense in the form of comedy by the digestion of the heroic image,the description of the fragile emotions,the opposition of freedom and repression,and the criticism of the real world.There are two aspects of the aesthetic style of Jiang Wen's movies and they are narrative style and movie language.In narrative strategy,Jiang Wen is good at utilizing the strategy of defamiliarization.He decomposes the traditional narrative mode and enriches the plot and language by absurd and comedic narrative method.The narrative feature of Jiang Wen's movie is performed by fragmentation.The film text isolates the original causal relationship of the story,so that the traditional narrative pattern fluency is reduced and the logic is weakened.The language of Jiang Wen's movie can be interpreted from four aspects including color,shot,music,symbol image and categorization.The color contrast of Jiang Wen's movies is strong and colorful.The whole style is magical.The music in his Jiang Wen's movies is interwined with grand atmosphere and sad beauty.The close-up shots in Jiang Wen's movies express a strong emotion while the movement shots make the whole movies in a tense rhythm.The categorization of symbol image of Jiang Wen's movies deliver the profound meaning.The language of Jiang Wen's movies is rich in subjectivity and manifestation with strong emotions.These movie language highlights the characteristics of the inner sadness of the film in the form of apparent humor as well as the contradictory interwine of ideal and reality.
