Lemonade is the sixth solo album by American singer Beyoncé in April,2016,and the same-titled film was released on HBO upon its release.The film is divided into eleven parts,including twelve songs.In the film,Beyoncé combines personal and collective narratives.It is not only an autobiographic text but also a mix of authenticity and fantasy.Beyoncé brings black females from the margin to the center,telling the stories and experiences of black community,especially of black women,under the oppression of white supremacy and patriarchy.This paper intends to analyze the process of black females’ self-liberation in Lemonade from the perspective of black feminism combined with black history.Chapter one represents the tradition of black females,including the application of African elements,black females’ hair and slave cabins.Chapter two discusses the construction of the subject identity of black females.The author mainly analyzes the traditional stereotypes of black women constructed by the mainstream society.Then the deconstruction of the mainstream images about black women and the exploration of black females’ self-definition will be presented.In chapter three,the author expounds the living plight of black women and the construction of sisterhood in the film.And the last chapter explores traumas and healing in black sexual relationships.In conclusion,the author analyzes the process of seeking for blackfemales’ self-liberation explored by Beyoncé,namely,by representing black female tradition,and constructing subject identity,sisterhood and healthy black sexual relationships to eliminate the oppression of white supremacy and patriarchy and to realize the self-liberation of black females.
