The author uses a Chinese speech by a Pakistani councilor to China in a Chinese-English simultaneous interpreting(SI)class and analyzes the performance of 7 second-year students from GSTI,BFSU,based on LI Changshuan’s analytical framework of "Comprehension,Expression and Emergency Response"(CEER)proposed in his Meaning and Expression:Annotated Texts in English/Chinese Interpretation. The speaker is not a native Chinese but made a Chinese speech, which was fluent, but lack of accuracy in grammar and pronunciation. In respect of this, the author analyzes whether interpreters are troubled in comprehension, expression and emergency response. In terms of Comprehension, the author analyzes cases of the speaker’s poor pronunciation and vagueness in expression, and suggests interpreters should make quick analysis, catch key words, and be familiar with materials beforehand. As for Expression, the author analyzes in terms of accuracy, clarity, flexibility and consistency with PPT,and suggests interpreters should correct speakers’ mistakes when necessary, explain sentences in simple words and apply the Interpretive Theory to deal with problems. In the Emergency Response part, the author puts forward the tactics of prediction according to the context and explanation. This thesis deals with a non-native speaker’s Chinese speech.Based on the findings, the author gives suggestions on cases of interpreting non-native speakers and proposes that interpreters should enhance awareness of language differences, use speeches with an accent for exercises, summarize pronunciation patterns of non-native speakers, interpret with flexibility, make good preparations and improve encyclopedic knowledge, hoping to offer enlightenment for students learning SI.
