The text chosen to be translated is the prologue and chapter Corky of Double Cup Love:On the Trail of Family,Food, and Broken Hearts in China by the Chinese American writer Eddie Huang.During the translation, instead of being completely loyal to wordings and expressions in source text, the translated text is more or less rewritten.Given the situation, this paper aims to analyze the rewriting and its main causes,as well as rewriting strategies adopted by the author. The research method adopted in this paper is case study.Based on the rewriting theory put forward by Andre Lefevere, the representative of Manipulation School, this paper analyzes rewriting and relevant strategies adopted in the translated text under the influence of ideology and poetics.Based on the analysis of this translation practice, the paper shows that in terms of ideology, the author makes corrections and deletions of expressions in the source text which contradict political positions of China and uses euphemisms to replace descriptions and wordings that violate traditional Chinese culture. The influence of poetics on the author is mainly reflected in how to deal with the culture image and language style in the source text.Through the replacement, addition and deletion of images and changes on the language style, the translated text meets the aesthetic standards of readers and it would be easier for them to understand and accept foreign culture.
