David Grossman is one of the most important writers in contemporary Israel.He ascended the literary world in the late 1970s.To the End of the Land is the pinnacle of his writing career.This novel stands on the position of women and the narrative perspective of this work is constantly changing between the past and the present.It shows that the depressed state of survival in the family under the shadow of war trauma,and it insinuates the worrying fate of contemporary Israelis.The war easily destroyed the most intimate relationships between people.Ora's family life becomes a microcosm of the existential state of the whole of Israel which under the influence of war.Israelis keep going to the war.The incessant war has left people with endless trauma.This paper tries to interpret the theme of war trauma in To the End of the Land from three aspects:the presentation of trauma,the recovery of trauma,and the introspection of trauma.The individual suffering in the background of war trauma reflects the traumatic experience in collective memory.The fathers were lost after the war,but it in stark contrast to the crazy of young people who are preparing for the war.As a wife and mother,Ola has to bear the deprivation of the war to two generations,her family is breaking up in the war.In the shadow of war,Abram makes his traumatic experience witnessed by telling.He reestablishes the connection with the outside world and regains the courage to survive.Ilan constantly reviews and criticizes himself in the escaping and confession to redeem the soul.In the conflict between the fate of the nation and the personal feelings,Israel continue writing the ancient myth of the "Isaac sacrifice",and the existence of the ancient myth has become a memory of traumatic experience of national culture.The embarrassment of identity obliterate the meaning of individual existence.Individual freedom of life is consciously in a state of negativity in front of nationalism,leading to individual loss and frustration.Individual freedom of life in the face of nationalism consciously in a state of aphasia,it reveals individual's loss and helpless.The title of To the End of the Land implies a grand narrative style,but the author chooses the life of ordinary people and shows that the unbearable pain of trauma which the war brings to a common Israeli family.From this point of view,To the End of the Land which is written by David Grossman has far beyond the the simple meaning of anti-war.It also reflects the query and rebellion from personal subjective consciousness to the nationalism.It manifests the heckle and introspection of the freedom of individual life and rights which in the shadow of the country,nation and war.
