Scriabin is an influential Russian composer and pianist at the turn of the 19 th century and 20 thcentury. His early works are usually in the style of Chopin, but later great changes occurred in his style, and he both had Wagner's fanaticism and Debussy's solemn. The Sonata No.2 in G-sharp minor, which was composed during1892 and 1897,is such a representative for his early works. The Sonata No.2 in G-sharp minor contained two movements. The first movement in Andante describes the silent sea in the moonlight, and the second one in Presto depicts the turbulent sea. This paper focuses on the analysis of the music characteristics and playing skills of the work.Three aspects are mainly included:First of all,the composer's life and primary works are introduced. The characteristics of the three different periods of Scriabin's works are then analyzed briefly. Then, the composing background, musical structure and music characteristic of the work are investigated. The characters of both the two movements are analyzed. Finally, the performance skills of several difficult pieces of the work are interpreted according to the analyses of the composer and the work above, and my own understanding and performance experience.
