This is a report on the English-Chinese translation of Grit:The Power of Passion and Perseverance(Chapter 1-2)by a well-known American author Angela Duckworth.Based on several years of studies,Angela Duckworth finished this book in 2016.This book introduces the importance of grit.In this report,the translator first determines that the type of text is a non-literary genre.According to the text type,the translator decides that the translation should be faithful to the source text.In this translation,the translator mainly analyzes and discusses translation difficulties with examples and specific translation methods.In this translation,the translation difficulties are mainly reflected in two aspects which are lexical and syntactic.Through consulting related materials,the translator mainly adopts the methods of annotation,extension of word meaning and conversion of part of speech to deal with the difficulties in lexical translation,using the methods of following the original syntactic order and reinventing the sentence structures and voice conversion to solve the difficulties in syntactic translation.On the basis of keeping the shape of source text,the translator strives to ensure the target readers can understand the translation easily.Finally,the translator summarizes translation experience and problems and deficiencies.Through this translation practice,the translator deeply realizes the importance of translation methods.And the translator should do more translation practice and improve the quality of translation for laying the solid foundation of translation study and translation mission in the future.
