Anna Akhmatova is a famous female poet of the Russian silver age and one of the representatives of the Acmeists. Her early writings, from 1912 to 1923,are mostly short lyrical poems. However, because of the fine description of the feelings of female and love experience the collections were considered to present a narrow theme and called the"indoor lyric".In her later period,Akhmatova turned to the long narrative poems. This is not just the growth of the length, but also the expansion of the poet's literary space and the fullness of her inner space. The narrative characteristics of the poetry of Akhmatova were noticed by her friend Mandelstam from the beginning. He believed that Akhmatova's works, which had the characteristics of prose, originated from the novels of the nineteenth century rather than poetry. However,of critics' views, there are too much emphasis on the form and language style of Akhmatova, also the magnificent theme in her later works. And there are few research of narrativity in her early works, especially in China.Since narrative characteristics such as prose-style language, dramatic plot, and fictional psychology have already been known to us,so it is necessary to discuss how these features works in her early poems. This paper chooses Akhmatova's early works as the object of study. The first reason is that the early period of her creation is in the framework of the theory and practice of the Acmeists, which makes it easy for us to compare Akhmatova with other Acmeists. The second reason is that the poet mainly creates short poems, and almost no long poems in the early period. What we aim to explore is how she used narrative techniques to build a huge spiritual space in a limited small space. The purpose of this paper is to examine the role of narrativity as a discourse in the structure of poetry and how it occurs. We do close reading and firstly focus on the temporal aspect of poetry by studying the rhythm from the aspects of sound and plot.Secondly,we turn to the spatial aspect. The role of narrativity in spatial construction in poetry is discussed.Eventfulness and narrativity are closely related.Akhmatova was good at selecting the climax of the event to make an important support in special construction of poetry. And there are also power relations in the space, which producing tensile force while keeping the whole structure of poetry steady. Finally, the narrative of the poet turns to "outdoor" from "indoor",from private space to public space, and from the narrative of individual memories to the narrative of the collective memories. The transformation of perception of language represents a subversion of faith.Akhmatova's poetry is a record of the era and writings of the Russian cultural memory.
