In recent years with the development of human society, ecological environment is deteriorating and ecological crisis across the world has become the world common problem. In the face of serious ecological crisis,Marxism is a great theory for guiding human society development. Can it provide guidance for the ecological crisis resolution? The ecocentrism criticizes that the historical materialism does not have the ecological connotation, and its anthropocentrism position should be responsible for the ecological crisis, which even gets some echo of the ecological Marxists. As the third generation representative of ecological Marxism,in the face of ecological critics of the Marxist anti-ecology,the British Jonathan Hughes actively defends the ecological connotation of Marxism, and insists that Marxism can provide thinking frame for the solutions to contemporary environmental problems. At present, the research on ecological Marxism is mainly concentrated in North America and less concerned about Europe, but in fact its contribution to Marxism is very great. Therefore,in order to study it completely, this article uses literature analysis, comparative analysis to interpret the representative book ecological and historical materialism and relevant literature, and elaborates its ecological Marxism thought comprehensively and systematically. The main theory frame as follows:The first part elaborates social background and theoretical origin of Hughes' ecological Marxism theory. From the social background, the increasingly serious ecological crisis and the deepening ecological movement are the social background and external impetus of Hughes'ecological Marxism theory. From the theoretical origin, the ecological thoughts of Marxism, the western anthropocentrism and systematical ecological Marxism are internal theory bases of Hughes'ecological Marxist theory. The second part elaborates the main content of Hughes' ecological Marxism theory, which is divided into four aspects.First of all,Hughes expounds the definition and classification of ecological problems, and defends Marxism from the perspective of anthropocentrism.Secondly,it elaborates Hughes' theory of the two-way relationship between man and nature, which enriches the connotation of the relationship between man and nature.Thirdly,it explains Hughes' defense to productive force development of Marxism, which is a powerful attack to eco-centralism.Finally,it expounds the Hughes' defense to Marxism human needs theory. The third part is the comparative evaluation of Hughes' ecological Marxism theory. On the basis of the comparative study of Hughes' and other ecological Marxists' theories, this paper discusses the value and limitation of Hughes' ecological Marxism. On the whole,on the basis of Grundman's and others' research,Hughes strongly defends the ecological implication and historical rationality of Marxism from the perspective of general anthropocentrism, extending the the practical value of historical materialism to ecological problems. It shows the future development prospect of Marxism and provides certain theoretical and practical value for the development of contemporary Marxism theory and the solution of ecological crisis.
