Communication And Adjustment:the Study Of Cultural Identity And The Change Of Cultural Identity In Xi’an Hui Min Street

Xi’an Huimin Street(Hui Community)is a typical urban Hui nationality community with profound history,superior geographical position,and drastic population mobility,making people automatically ponder the following problems.Whether do the gradually varied temple structure and population pattern exert impacts on cultural identities of the people in the Hui Community?What role do media inside the Hui Community play in the process of constructing national culture identity and maintaining ethnic group boundaries?This paper analyzes the formation basis and changing factors of national culture identity through field investigation from space and time dimensions.By analyzing the media contents and conducting in-depth interviews with audiences,it attempts to analyze the types of cultural identity and acculturation strategy of people in the Hui Community that media contents shape at different periods from the perspective of communication acculturation.The research finds that the change of temple structure forms unified cultural identity in the early days.Along with the flow of religious sect,mutually independent cultural identity is formulated.Afterwards,due to settlement pattern and population mobility,the cultural identity of "collectively worshipping only one creator" is generally accepted by people in the Hui Community.The symbolic media emerging with rite still become the leading force of Islamic cultural identity.Newspapers and periodicals maintain the cohesion and cultural independence of ethnic group during certain periods.Mass media of communication facilitate information flow,but desalinate the religious meaning of "Hui Community".Passive involution emerges in national culture.In the new period,the creation of official account of "Xian_huifang" wins over attention resource of people in the Hui Community once again,guarantee the core of culture,and maintain the boundaries of ethnic groups.Under the dual effects of history and media,geographic patterns change passively.Media renewal and accommodation are initiative empowerment.User production contents affect the national cultural identity of Xi’an Hui Community The transformation of cultural identity comes into being immediately.
