In our country, first graders have been accustomed to reading a large number of picture books in the early childhood stage, and picture book as the starting point for children to read, always play a very important role in children's reading development. How to use picture book reading to promote children's literacy learning has become an important research direction. Many studies have shown that children rarely pay attention to writing in picture book reading. It is still controversial whether children can learn new words through short contact with words in picture book reading.Research on this problem has great practical significance,is also one of the major problems of this study.Pictophonetic characters(left and right structure)accounted for a large part of proportion in the Chinese, and the semantic radicals and phonetic radicals play a very important role in learning Chinese characters. This study focuses on the role of phonetic and semantic radicals in the learning process of pictophonetic characters. And whether this process is affected by the frequency of phonetic and semantic radicals. This study mainly uses the eye-tracking technology to explore whether the first-grade Chinese students can learn new words in the context of picture books share reading and whether the learning process is affected by the frequency of the radicals. In the recording of eye movement tracking,30 first grade children need to finish reading 32 stories learning tasks which including target stimulus. After reading eight stories each time, the children are asked to complete two tests:the pronunciation test(pronouncing the target stimulus)and the selection test(select the target stimulus from the four options). The experiment was carried out by using two factors(semantic radicals, phonetic radicals)and high frequency, low frequency)which is a within subjects design research. The results found that:(1)Picture book reading can promote the first grade children to learn new words, and this learning process is influenced by the frequency of the semantic and phonetic radicals.(2)The fixation duration of the new words is 16%of the total gaze time.(3)Fixation time and children's language abilities' effect on the new word learning can not be ignored. The results provide experimental evidence for picture book reading which can promote new words learning, and also prove that this learning process is affected by the frequency of semantic and phonetic radicals. Therefore, this study finally gives some suggestions on the learning and teaching of Chinese characters.
