The Study Of Liu ChenWeng Ji Prose

Liu Chenweng,as the representative adherent of Song dynasty during the alteration period between Song dynasty and Yuan dynasty,shocked the literary circles in Jiangxi province and guided them to the new direction of literary creation with his abundant literary works.Among all proses written by Liu,there are 105 narrative proses with a considerable amount and absolute advantages.The main part of these narrative proses are about towers and buildings,academies of classical learning,Buddhist and Daoist temples as well as the hill climbing activities and scenic spots visits,and the main contents of these articles are about argumentation in expression.In the past before Liu,the narrative prose had a stereotype that was narration first,then the description and argumentation as the end.However,the structure of Liu's prose is not settled but full of changes.He may make comments,or express his emotions and sometimes describe the scenery in the article.Generally speaking,his articles integrate narration,description and argumentation filled with rapid changes and witty words.This thesis will make a thorough study on the narration proses written by Liu from the following parts.The introduction presents the studying background,research overview of his articles and the significance and methods of narration prose writing.Then chapter one analyzes the general situation of development of narration prose and its origin and forerunner,and makes a concrete analysis of developments of this kind of prose in Southern Song dynasty and before.Chapter two classifies Liu's notes about learning,academy,temple,courtyard,nunnery,saiin,hall,and building.Chapter three is about the artistic characteristics of narration prose written by Liu Chenweng,whose writing techniques were mostly singular and changeable and sometimes were not limited to the stereotype,thus are quite different from those of former scholars in the artistic features.Besides,he also followed others' theory and knew how to skillfully apply previous works.For this chapter,the analysis will be mostly around the above aspects.Chapter four is the final part of the whole thesis which explains the Liu Chenweng's personality and his ideology showed in his proses.For this part,writer analyses the central argument from writer's personality of knowing what to love and hate as well as his strongly influenced Confusianism and Buddism ideology.
