The Discussion On The Projection In Chinese Watercolors

Projection played an important role in the development of painting,and its presentation also shows the differences of aesthetic appreciation between Eastern and Western.Derived from the west,watercolors was introduced to China at the end of feudal society,and,with the social transformation,finally forming into Chinese watercolors owed to the diligence of several generations of artists.As a mixture of Eastern and Western arts,Chinese watercolors has its distinct characteristics and enriches the manifestation of Watercolors.Projection shows its values not only in the constitute and the manifestation of a painting,but also in enhancing the emotional resonance and revealing the theme.However,reviewing the watercolor works in exhibitions throughout recent years,few artists knew these important valew and applied projection to their works.The collective awareness and subjective transformation of artists are still in an “unconscious” and “accompanying” state,and the artist’s attention to projection and the degree of excavation is still not enough.Based on the diverse charm and manifestation of projection in Chinese watercolors,this paper focuses on the artistic features of projection in Chinese watercolors,giving a definite and concrete exposition of the great development potential of projection in Chinese watercolors.The first chapter of this paper introduces the connotation and function of projection from the perspectives of the nature,works from worldwide,and traditional and modern works in Western and Eastern.The second chapter is divided into two parts.The first part divides the development of Chinese watercolors into three important periods,analyzing the roles of projection chronologically and indicating projection changes throughout the development of Chinese watercolors.The second part horizontally analyzes and classifies the artistic features of projection in Chinese watercolors into three categories,revealing the significance of projection after example analysis.The last chapter is the thinking of projection,pointing out the reason why the changes of projection performance follows the development of Chinese watercolors,and indicating that the projection in Chinese watercolors still have huge potential to be explored.This paper aims at revealing the creation values of projection,so that watercolor students give enough attention in theory and practice.
