Studies On The Subtle Meaning Of Lao Zi And The Subtle Meaning Of Cuang Tzu

Yang Wenhui's two small writings——The Subtle Meaning of Lao Zi and The Subtle Meaning of Cuang tzu are the annotations of Lao zi and Chuang Tzu which are explained in Buddhism to Taoist thought.No matter on thinking or on literature,the two books have their unique style and achievement.Synthesis of the existing research results,this paper adopts text analysis,induction and culture investigation and research methods from the aspects of ideological content and literary thoughts emphatically to study The Subtle Meaning of Lao Zi and The Subtle Meaning of Cuang tzu and hoping to make some innovations on of the ideological content and the interpretation of literary thoughts.This paper includes three chapters:The first chapter is about the reasons for writing these two books and style and characteristics of interpretation of The Subtle Meaning of Lao Zi and The Subtle Meaning of Chuang Tzu.The occasion of the book is intended to explore the direct and potential factors which are hoping to make academic innovations and the present situation of the society in late Qing dynasty which was less and the social ideological trend of saving the nation from subjugation and the Buddhism Renaissance wave of reform in late Qing dynasty.Then this paper analysis the style of interpretation of two books and draw to the characterristic of interpretation two books is the view of ontology and the theory of practice according to the ideological contents of the two books.The second chapter studys on the thought of The Subtle Meaning of Lao Zi and the The Subtle Meaning of Chuang Tzu which is Buddhism to Taoist thought.In the history of interpretating Lao Zi and Chuang Tzu by Buddhism,it's very rare that The Subtle Meaning of Lao Zi and the The Subtle Meaning of Chuang Tzu have profound ideology,Buddhism and analytical thinking.The Buddhism to Taoist thought in these two books are embodied in three aspects:the view of ontology,the view on life and death and the view of practice.First of all,in the view of ontology,the "reality" of Buddhism and “dao” of Taoismhas have the identity,not only from the duality of empty and non-empty both in “reality” and “dao”,but also explaining “Gu shen”and “Xuan Pin” in Lao Zi with “hidden Buddha” and “Alaya-consciousness ” which are the nicknames of “reality”;Secondly,in the view on life and death,from the “origin of reality” development ideas to the theory of life and death in Huayan school,leading to a conclusion that life and death just depends on whether the toil rise up or break down;Finally,on the theory of practice,Wen-hui Yang consider that there should be different practice methods lying on different intelligence.The intelligent one can be Buddha through insight,the stupid one must pracice step by step.This paper analyzes the main Wen-hui Yang to practice on interpretation of karmic fruit,marching order thought and practice of teaching view,thus point out a way for people to learn Buddhism on principles and methods.The third chapter analyzes the literary features of The Subtle Meaning of Lao Zi and The Subtle Meaning of Cuang tzu.Although there are little literaty thought in these two books,but there are bright spots.Firstly,the most prominent is discussed “without words and with words” literary thoughts.Taoism mainly emphasized on “without wrods”.However,The Subtle Meaning of Cuang tzu emphasized on both,and it also consider that the attitude towards to words should be “without” after “with”,use the words and do not rely on words.Seconly,this paper summarized the rhetorical question and doubt and analyzed its function and meaning.Finally,this paper summarized and analyzed the literature review in The Subtle Meaning of Lao Zi and The Subtle Meaning of Cuang tzu.Finally,in the conclusion part,this paper mainly summarized the achievements and shortcomings of the two books.The most outstanding achievement is deep buddhist,and profound analytical thinking,while deficiency for trade-offs,far-fetched.To sum up,through the above three aspects of the investigation and analysis on The Subtle Meaning of Lao Zi and The Subtle Meaning of Chuang Tzu,basically Outlines the basic style and features and value of the two books.At the same time,also analyzed the mechanism of annotation Taoist thought by buddhist thought which has certain reference value to the series study on interpretation Lao Zi and Chuang Tzu by Buddhism.
