| Shakespeare was a bright star in the history of British literature,and all over the world worships his attainments in drama.At the same time,China was under the government of Ming Dynasty,Tang Xianzu made a great contribution in the development of Chinese drama,and he was called Shakespeare of China.Even though there were great differences in Chinese and Western culture,there did exist some similarity in dramas of Shakespeare and Tang Xianzu,and the most typical similarity is the confliction between sense and sensibility.Specifically,Shakespeare lived in the time when the influence of the renaissance is most extensive in Europe.In this background,the consciousness of humanity and feminism gradually rose,and most of Shakespeare’s dramas also expressed the ethics of humanism which affirmed human value and emphasized human emotion.This mainly performed by the young men’s and women’s pursuit for the liberty of love and marriage,and their confliction to religious asceticism and feudal marriage system.Tang Xianzu lived in the late period of Ming Dynasty,and he was a great dramaturge.In this period,the Neo-Confucianism was the ruling philosophy.While Tang Xianzu was influenced by traditional Confucianism,his literature showed humanistic care,they affirmed the female’s pursuit to love,and called for equal social status between male and female.And it conflicted with the Neo-Confucianism.The sense could be regarded as the pursuit to humanity,and the sensibility could be regarded as the inherent ideas in specific time.Actually,it was the conflict between sense and sensibility caused the amazing literature.Based on this,this article mainly analyzed the dramas of Shakespeare and Tang Xianzu,and analyzed the conflict between sense and sensibility in their drama,and analyzed the causes of this conflict.The main body of this article constitutes of three parts.The first part is a brief introduction about the conflict between sense and sensibility,and the appearance of this conflict in the time that Shakespeare and Tang Xianzu lived.The second part mainly introduced this conflict in Shakespeare’s and Tang’s dramas.Firstly,this part analyzed the abstract environment that caused this confliction,and secondly,for the examples of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream,Hamlet,Romeo and Juliet,and Tang’s Peony Pavilion and Legends of Purple Hairpin,this part analyzed this confliction in their drama’s specifically.The third part thinks about the cause of this confliction.This part mainly comparatively analyzed the main thought in their living time and the pursuit in authors’ heart combines with the time they lived. |
