A Study On Vulgar Economic Determinism And Its Critique

Is the social and historical theories of Marx and Engels Economic Determinism or have a relationship with Economic Determinism? The first question is: which factors are driving human social development? and in what ways are such factors playing their roles? The adjective "economic" is a critical role in our understandings of Economic Determinism.In the preface,the main attitudes of some domestic scholars on the question of Marx and Engels’ s Economic Determinism is described.The second part introduces the key and difficult problems in the study of Economic Determinism of Marx and Engels.The first chapter begins with the emphasis on causality,inevitability and regularity which are the basic connotations of philosophical determinism.It enables us to roughly grasp the main features and perspectives of Economic Determinism.Through the comparison of Determinism and Economic Determinism,we can discover the common theoretical essences.In the second chapter,firstly,the story of Barthes’ criticism to Marx’s ideas is introduced.Secondly,it introduces that practices of Ernst’s attempts.Finally,it introduces the story of Bernstein’s misinterpretation of the economic and technological functions.The third chapter is focused on Engels’ critiques of Vulgar Economic Determinism,Vulgar Economic Determinism imposes non-Marxist things on Marx and Engels.Lukács criticizes Vulgar Economic Determinism and says that it is a wrong understanding of the role of the economy,and it ignored the importance of revolutionary consciousness.Gramsci believes that human beings’ social practice is creating and changing history.In the fourth chapter,the author interprets the original meanings of Marx’s views on the economic base and economic functions.The fifth chapter are the interpretations of Marx’ Economic Determinism and the theory of Engels...
