Film script as the literature part of film art, which depends on the actor's lines and stage directions, consists of script text and performance text. The script language in the main form of dialogue is different from the language of other types of literature. The actor's lines reference everyday dialogue in the script, but they are different.A large number of the actor's lines are the common language features, which are the form of personalities and characters' relationships in the script. In the dialogue,a turn refers to the words a speaker produces continuously from the beginning to the end at any time of a conversation.Turn-taking is taking turns to speak. This thesis mainly discusses characterization of film scripts based on turn-taking from four aspects. The first chapter summarizes the language of film scripts and how to produce the actor's lines. This chapter emphasizes the conceptual issues of turn-taking and applies relevant theory to turn-taking theory in the analysis of the actor's lines. The second chapter limits the study of film script to the actor's lines and takes the film scripts of Taking Tiger Mountain by Strategy for example based on turn-taking,which makes a new view of personalities and characters' relationships in the script. The third chapter concentrates on the quantitative analysis of three excerpts taken from Taking Tiger Mountain by Strategy based on turn-taking.And it makes a research into personalities and characters' relationships in the script objectively and systematically. The fourth chapter compares the actor's lines of the same plots in the three scripts of the film Taking Tiger Mountain by Strategy in order to broaden the study of characterization in film scripts. And it makes exploratory value of both literary criticism and language usage and enrich the study of characterization in film scripts.
