Cohesion is irreplaceable not only in linguistics, but also in creating texture of a text.In addition,it is also very essential for translation study.Furthermore, lexical cohesion is very significant in gaining textural cohesion and even coherence;and the translation of lexical cohesion can not only affect textural coherence of the target text, but can also affect the recreation of the source style. Thus,in translation,it is important to recreate lexical cohesion of original text.Lexical cohesion has turned into a very popular topic, and a good few of scholars have explored it from different angles. However, fewer researchers study it from translation systematically. Therefore, mainly grounded on Halliday and Hasan's lexical cohesion theory, the study aims to probe into the translation methods in dealing with lexical cohesion, taking Harper Lee's masterpiece To Kill A Mockingbird as the object to analyze the characteristics of lexical cohesion in the original novel and its two Chinese versions and to compare the methods in handling lexical cohesion in the two Chinese versions of To Kill A Mockingbird from reiteration and collocation. The analysis shows that: in the original novel, many lexical cohesive devices are utilized by the author, particularly repetition, synonym, and general word, and they convey the effect of cohesion. In Gao Hongmei's version, equivalent translation is applied frequently in dealing with lexical cohesion, and combination, addition, transformation and so on are also adopted flexibly. Thus,Gao's version is more faithful to the original novel and can better achieve cohesive effect. While Li Zhanzhu et al are inclined to use various translation methods, such as equivalent translation, transformation, addition and so on.Thus,Li's version tends to be free translation and can achieve certain effect of cohesion. Therefore, during translating lexical cohesion, the translator ought to manage to keep faithful to the source and should mainly use equivalent translation, and other methods, such as combination, addition, omission, and transformation can also be used when it is necessary to achieve textural cohesion and to create precise, smooth, and coherent translations.
