"Industrial Imagination" In The Political-culture Context

The “Seventeen Years” industrial narrative novel is a novel based on the industrial perspective and reflecting industrial life from 1949 to 1966,and the writers includes famous writers and budding worker-writers.Representative works of the former is Cheng Feng Po Lang,Bai Lian Cheng Gang,Tie Shui Ben Liu,etc.Representative writer of the latter is Hu Wan chun,Tang Ke xin,Fei Li wen,Wan Guo ru,etc.With the continuous development of writers and the novels,“Seventeen Years” industrial novels has become more and more prosperous.This paper is been divided into four content:the propaganda of the mainstream consciousness,ethical narration of the industrial narrative,the construction of worker’s image,the limitations of the industrial novels.The first part analyzes background and literary context of the “Seventeen Years” industrial novels.It includes the great process of industrialization provides an opportunity and the propaganda of literature and art for the workers,peasants and soldiers.The second part is the analysis of the worker’s image.There are two camps emerging among workers,worker-cadres and workers’ families: progressive group and reactionary group.It is primary method of image analysis to praise progressive characters and criticize reactionary characters.The third part discusses the ethical narration of the“Seventeen Years” industrial novels.The sense of ownership,collectivism and labor enthusiasm become more and more popular.Private life and individual emotional make the concessions.The last part explores the achievements and limitations of the “seventeen years”industrial novels.Its main achievement is to pioneer the new theme and shape the new character.However,There are some limitations in “seventeen years” industrial novels,such as concentrated theme,superficial characters,stereotyped plot and single artistry.This limitations result from the interaction of many reasons,for example,the background of “Seventeen Years”,writer’s conscious compliance to political context,confine of industrial subject literature.The study on “Seventeen Years” novels will help us to analyze the cultural context review the literature of “Seventeen Years”.Comprehensive scrutinize and study of workers’ experience can provide a useful elicitation for industrial literature in the new period.
