Value-driven Attentional Capture Affects The Status Of Representations In Working Memory

At present,researchers have done a lot of research on the storage status of information in working memory,but there is still controversy.There are three different views on this problem:Cowan(2001)argued that the information stored in working memory has two states:focus of attention(FoA)that can store 3-4 objects and long-term memory(LTM);McElree(2006)also believed that the work of memory in the attention of the focus and long-term memory of the two states,but the focus can only store one object;but Oberauer(2002)argued that working memory in the information stored in the focus,direct access(DA)and long-term memory of three states,but the focus can store an object.In view of the above,it can be concluded that retrieving information from working memory means that the selection of the target information into the attention focus has been further processed.So the focus of attention in working memory is similar to the selective attention in perception.In the field of perception attention studies in addition to exogenous and endogenous classic attention,in recent years,scholars put forward the value driven attention(Anderson,Laurent,&Yantis,2011),namely,by giving some characters or stimulus money reward value factors change note individual choice.The relationship between value driven attention and exogenous attention and endogenous attention is controversial,and the impact of value driven attention on the storage state of information in working memory is unknown.Therefore,the author use the training-test paradigm in the experiment to study the influence of the value driven attention on the information storage in working memory.Experiment 1 using the sequential presentation paradigm,find that the reward associated with the memory and the last memory is in focus.Experiment 2 uses the simultaneous presentation-clue paradigm,which is based on different types of attention,and can focus on at least two objects in the focus.Experiment 3 uses the same paradigm as Experiment 2 to change the validity of the clue and find that working memory does not interact with each other when processing objects based on different attention types into the focus of attention.This study has the following conclusions:(1)value-driven attention can choose information into the focus of attention.(2)based on the different types of attention to the selectivity(endogenous attention or exogenous attention and value-driven attention),attention to the focus can be maintained two objects.(3)based on the selectivity of different attention types,working memory does not interact with multiple objects in the focus of processing attention.
