We consider the establishment of anti-Japanese national united front based on the Kuomintang-Communist Cooperation as the background and regard the two principles of apparent "unification" and the recessive "independence" taken by the CPC during the anti-Japanese war as the perspectives so as to study on the the evolution of the symbols of the CPC political propaganda during the anti-Japanese war in the paper. We divide the paper into three parts.(1)The formation and mode features of the political propaganda symbols by the CPC prior to the Second Kuomintang-Communist Cooperation;(2)The changes in the symbols of the CPC political propaganda prior to the Southern Anhui Incident;(3)The changes in the symbols of the CPC political propaganda after the Southern Anhui IncidentIn the first part we discuss the formation of Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army political propaganda symbols. The purpose is to recognize the mode features of the CPC political propaganda symbols before the Second Kuomintang-Communist Cooperation or before Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army was changed into the Eighth Route Army and the New Fourth Army. The CPC political propaganda symbols derived from the Soviet Union. The Workers and Peasants Red Army political propaganda symbols diverted and referred the Soviet Union political propaganda symbols.Based on this, due to the restriction of China's national conditions and objective conditions the variation of local symbol elements was produced. From having no unified standard to going through the standardized construction,it gradually formed more normative symbols system with its own formal features. The second part and the third part are the focus of this paper. We discuss the changes of using the political propaganda symbols by the CPC during the Second Kuomintang-Communist Cooperation, that is to say, since the Workers and PeasantsRed Army was adapted to the sequence of the national revolutionary army till the Anti-Japanese War ended. The Southern Anhui Incident is the node of the change. Before the Southern Anhui Incident, the CPC,especially in the open and outward occasions, used the Kuomintang political propaganda symbols solely or mixedly. It was the main form. However,in internal some occasions people could only use the political propaganda symbols of original Workers and Peasants Red Army. After the Southern Anhui Incident, the CPC adjusted the usage of political propaganda symbols. The CPC continued to use the Kuomintang political propaganda symbols in the outward occasions, and at the same time had the expandable usage of the political propaganda symbols preserved during the Red Army.In addition, the CPC intensified the independent construction of its own political propaganda symbols. The independent construction mainly reflected in the establishment of the flag of the CPC,and the expandable usage and the molding of leaders' pictures of the CPC.
