The film "Song of the Phoenix" is released in May 2016. The film is the last work of the fourth-generation director Wu Tianming (1939-2014), it tells a story about the heritage of Suona art. Suona artist Jiao San eventually ushered in the tragic fate.In this paper, take "Song of the Phoenix" as an example to start Wu Tianming' s film research, in the new era background, The article is divided into four parts of the content.In the introduction part, this article made a comprehensive overview about Wu Tiaming's film theme and art standards, then pointed out the necessity to re-study of Wu Tiaming's film, with taking the criticism of popular culture as the angle of view, taking history and folklore as the research path. The first chapter focuses on the connection between the novel and the film. It is found that the narrative focus in the process of adaptation is free.The third chapter analysis Wu Tianming's film text, from "History and Folklore's Image Writing", " History and Folklore's Image presentation " two aspects, then contrasts Wu Tianming's cultural life in different historical periods by comparing Wu Tianming's representative works of "Life", "The King of Masks" and "Song of the Phoenix" in different way, found that " Song of the Phoenix " from the text adaptation, character shaping, the use of the lens and other aspects have turned to be conservative.On the basis of the previous analysis of the text of the film, the third chapter firstly identified Wu Tianming' s film hidden cultural characteristics, that old age Wu Tianming is a "wanderer" who stand outside the commercial landscape, he chose to defend the traditional dignity when he faced with traditional and modern conflict, which makes the film " Song of the Phoenix " turning to be conservative.
