Saul Bellow is recognized as the most prominent American novelist following Ernest Hemingway and William Faulkner.Because of the growth environment and the background of Saul Bellow,he cares much about the existence state and the mental condition of human in his writings.In a significant number of his works,he takes the Jewish identity heroes as entry points to describe the situation of Americans and the existent predicament of modern human beings.However,the greatest significance of Saul Bellow's writing is because he sketches this situation with real feelings and vibrant humanism spirits.He catches sight of the hope of humanity from the precious qualities reflected from the characters in his works.He looks for the spiritual homeland of human beings relentlessly and explores the way out of the predicament of people persistently.Therefore,this paper is intended to explore the most beautiful meaning in Saul Bellow's work---Mr.Sammler's Planet by the view of the humanistic care.In Mr.Sammler's Planet,Saul Bellow describes the three days' adventures of a old seventy man who is a survivor of the World War II.The novel conveys the concept of humanism,as to find a correct the approach of the future of human beings.This paper takes humanism as the breakthrough point to explore the humanistic spirit in the novel.The first part is the domestic research on Saul Bellow and his works,and in this part,I summarise the relevant researches and list the latest research results.And on this basis,I present the research value and the significance-of this paper.This paper explores Mr.Sammler's Planet from the perspective of humanism and explores the importance of upholding humanism in a materialistic society from two escapes of Mr Sammler.The second part depicts Mr.Sammler's first escape,its phenomenon and the deep reasons for the massacre,and the reasons of his escaping of the Holocaust.I firstly describe the trauma of Mr.Sammler—the survivor of the war,then analysis the reasons for the Holocaust,that is,the absence of humanism.The third part describes Mr.Sammler's second escape,that is,escape from the earth.In this part,I analyse the moon landing plan,the reasons why humanity always wants to fly away from the earth.The earth becomes a wilderness,and humans cannot stand living on it.The final section is the decline of humanism.The fourth part is the awakening of the humanism of Sammler.After two escapes,he realised that escape was not the fundamental solution to the problem of human beings,only by dealing with the challenges bravely,and by regaining the humanist tradition,can human beings save the planet.The fifth part is the summary of the whole paper.Even though Mr.Sammler has preserved his life after escaping from the war,he suffered endless traumas.His escape from the earth also was completed in failure.Although the earth becomes a wilderness,he still decides to stay in the land.He adheres to the humanistic tradition and helps save the world by using humanism spirit.
