This report is based on the translation practice of Uncle Montague's Tales of Terror,which is written by the famous British children's book author Chris Priestley.The original book has eleven chapters in total and the first three chapters are chosen as the text of this translation practice which is finished under the guidance of George Steiner's Fourfold Translation Motion Theory.There are four steps in translation activities,namely,trust,aggression,import and compensation.From a peculiar view George Steiner highlights the important status of a translator in the activity of translation and makes his theory has a strong practical and applicable operability.Uncle Montague's Tales of Terror belongs to Children's Literature and compared with Adult's Literature,Children's Literature is more lucid and interesting,containing a wide array of daily words and simple sentences.The theory of George Steiner is applied to this translation practice with the purpose of combining the theory and the practice together and the text is analyzed from the view of children.According to the four steps,subjective initiative is definitely required and the content and thoughts of the original book are able to be reproduced as possible as the translator could.This report firstly gives a brief introduction about the British author and the chosen book,then describes the whole translation activity from three stages.Secondly,it generalizes the main idea of George Steiner's Fourfold Translation Motion Theory and analyzes specific appliances in this translation practice.Thirdly,with the help of the theory,specific example analyses are given from the vocabulary,sentence and rhetoric level.Finally,this report makes conclusion about the translation experience for further guiding of future translation.
