Recent sixteen years have witnessed the prosperity of studies on English listening and coursebooks;however, there are few researches on EFL listening coursebook evaluation, especially for English majors right now in China. As listening coursebooks are highly relevant to students' study, the evaluation of listening textbooks for English majors is of great importance for teachers, students and course book compilers. This study aims to build up an evaluation framework on the foundation of related domestic and foreign studies, then conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the second edition of A Listening Course published by Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press in 2013.The evaluation consists of both the internal and external perspectives. The internal evaluation focuses on the coursebook design, including the physical arrangement, syllabus, compiling principles, listening input, tasks and exercises and listening subskills, and the external evaluation mainly investigates students' and teachers' perceptions of this set of listening materials through questionnaire and interview. After these two evaluation processes, the strengths and weaknesses of A Listening Course in different aspects such as compilation, listening material selection, tasks and exercises design and the cultivation of listening sub-skills are summarized. The findings offer some implication for students' learning of English listening, teachers' listening teaching, and the improvement of listening coursebooks for English majors.
