Shanghai can be described as the source of the new cultural movement in the 1930 s.The painters who returned from studying abroad took their advanced modernist art ideas and set off a modernist art revolution.Therefore,various Western painting societies spread like a storm at that time,and the Storm Society is the most representative one.The Storm Society is an art group with spreading the images,putting forward the slogan of “breaking the silence and advocating the modern art”.And it took “creating colors,lines and shapes” as the artistic starting point,creating a localized modernist art belonging to the nation and promoting the historical process of Chinese modernist art on the basis of the study and reference of western modern art.The Storm Society established a pioneering Chinese modernist art theory system,grasped the similarities between Chinese and Western painting theory,learned the essence of modern art schools,combined with the elements of traditional Chinese painting and folk art,and then formed its unique artistic characteristics.The members left the stylized reproduction of the object and the reproduction of the photographic style behind their heads,subtracting the complex shape of the object without pursuing the accurate perspective,stylized composition and three-dimensional space,with the most primitive language to draw the image of the heart,so that the object will be more pure.At the same time,in the visual characteristics and the essential features of the object,the shape and color will also be followed by a re-arranged.Members strengthen the subject with enhancing contours and edge lines,express subjective feelings with distortions and deformation,and achieve subjective demands with contrasting the colors.The Storm Society has always been committed to exploring the modernist art that is suitable for China,and the effect is remarkable,however,because of its various factors,now their works are left with rare people to care for them,which are forgotten in the last century in Shanghai.In this paper,the author will study the art of modernism from the following five aspects,hoping to grasp its artistic style and artistic language from the perspective of macroscopic art,and to express its original performance in the field of Chinese modernismand artistic influence.To re-understand and regain their artistic values.In the introduction,the author introduces the academic value and research status of this topic in details,and puts forward the research ideas and research methods.The first chapter combines the social background and the artistic environment of the Chinese and Western in the early 20 th century,and makes a detailed description of the historical context of the art movement of the community,and studies its causes,artistic practice and aftermath.The second chapter analyzes the artistic characteristics and the causes of the Storm Society,and studies the academic background of the members of the society and the influence of the Western modernist art masters on them.The third chapter is the key chapter of this paper,based on the formal language in the works of art,reclassified the art works of the group of poets.Lucubrate and find the potential value of art from the four aspects of the nationalization of linear freehand,decorative visual reconstruction,the meaning of deformation and the magic of the new realism.The fourth chapter discusses the inheritance and response of contemporary oil painting to the modernist art of the society,and the artistic utility in the contemporary art scene.
