This paper is a report on the translation project of the local chronicles of Chengdu,Chengdu Zhi,a project the author participated during his MTI study at Xihua University.The project is a collaborative translation project between two higher education institutions,one aiming to promote local culture of Chengdu within the "going out" backdrop to spread Chinese culture globally.This paper introduces the practice of the project of Chengdu Zhi from several aspects and includes in total four parts.First of all,the author gives an introduction to this translation project,including its background information and the purpose it serves.In the second part,the author elaborates the process of the translation project,in which he presents the assisting tools,such as computer software and internet resources,used in the process.In addition,the author also briefly describes the review process of the translation.Due to the particularity of the source text,poems,religious terms and ancient official titles,among others,are involved.In the third chapter,the author will classify and summarize those categories and give his analysis for those difficulties.Theoretical guidance will be tentatively presented as references to translation schemes of similar texts.Skopos theory,developed from the functional translation theory,is employed as theoretical guidance to better serve the purpose of culture "going out" strategy.A conclusion will be drawn to the translation project in the last part.The author will briefly describe problems encountered in this process,and at the same talk about knowledge he gains from the project.The translation project of Chengdu Zhi posed challenges because of its special text but it was also greatly awarding.This experience enables the author to recognize his weakness and prepares him better as a translator.The report is indeed a summary,yet it's also a starting point for future endeavors.
