Karl Jenkins is an active composer and conductor in contemporary Britain.His works involves all fields,including songs,chamber music,chorus,etc.Songs of Sanctuary was created in 1995,selected from the first of the Jenkins’ s Adiemus series of chorus divertimento.This work combines the different regions of the world’s musical style and elements,including the folk vocal music and percussion accompaniment and other forms and uses classical form of music to write modern choral music,displaying the unique artistic characteristics of the works and to convey the composer’s diverse creative thinking and aesthetic concepts.The paper is divided into three chapters in structure : The first chapter is the overview and summary of the composer as well as the production of Songs of Sanctuary and also his creative idea;The second chapter mainly discusses the feature of the work in terms of ontology analysis from musical elements,tonality and harmony,minimalist music style,music structure,lyrics and aesthetic concepts;The third chapter studies the re-creation feature of Songs of Sanctuary from the overall tone layout,solution to the difficult points in voice and rhythms,the design for choral performance as well as the conduction in each movement.This paper mainly focuses on the study of the two features of Jenkins’ Songs Of Sanctuary: ontology analysis and re-creation.Through the ontological research on Songs of Sanctuary and summarize the artistic achievements of composers,hope to a certain extent,the development of contemporary Chinese chorus art enlightening significance.
