No matter in which stage of students learning English,junior or senior,learning words is concerned as a boring,dull and mechanic process as for students.Moreover,students often complain that learning English vocabulary takes up a lot of time with little progress and results.Not only do students struggle,but teachers are puzzled in how to teach vocabulary effectively.Accordingly,this atmosphere can have devastating effects on students' leaning interests and confidence.In addition,There has not been many scientific studies or research conducted on the teaching and learning of vocabulary.The purpose of this study is to seek to explore an appropriate and effective vocabulary teaching model:Cooperative Learning,which is based on the Zone of Proximal Development and Scaffolding teaching theory in Higher Vocational College.In the study,the author makes full use of questionnaires and vocabulary tests to find key information in students' vocabulary learning situation before and after the experiment.Cooperative Learning in vocabulary teaching and learning can arouse students' learning intuition and interest,improve their learning performance,activate a class learning atmosphere and develop their ability to learn vocabulary.During the teaching experiment,the author utilized SPSS 19.0 for analysis of the data and made the following conclusions:first,Cooperative Learning can be motivational for learners;second,the classroom atmosphere can be activated;third,the roles of the teacher has been changed in the Cooperative Learning class;fourth,Cooperative Learning improves students' social skills,especially the relationship between classmates;Finally,it develops students' ability in learning vocabulary after class.To sum up,the exploration of effective and suitable methods for teaching and learning vocabulary will enable students to learn better and better.
