| In the 21 th century, the rapid evolution of electronic technology keeps enlarging the influence of Hollywood films around the globe. The thoughts carried by those movies also try to follow the ideological trend in reality. This thesis aims to make a specific research on the violent images in two of the most popular Hollywood movies--The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo and Mad Max: Fury Road.Simon de Beauvoir’s existential feminism is employed to analyze the cause of women’s suffering under male violence, and then the thesis studies further the feasibility and significance of women’s resort to violence as the way to fight against male’s blows.Women usually have no subjectivity in patriarchal society under the bondage of their identity as “the other”.The inferiority of women’s position brought about by patriarchal culture and rules tie females tightly to their immanence, thus making their transcendence beyond reach. In both of these two films, female characters all successfully transform their role from violence sufferers to violence initiators by resorting to violence.Violent revolt facilitates women to get rid of male’s physical and psychological abuse.Female characters in The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo and Mad Max: Fury Road all try to fight for females’ right by using violence against the male-dominant social culture and ethics. In The Second Sex,however,Beauvoir also emphasizes that the ideal situation for women’s existence is the realization of their value as an “individual” with the total deconstruction of patriarchal system. She disagrees to separate female’s world from that of males’,instead, the goal of women’s emancipation should be the harmonious coexistence with male based on a respect to gender disparity. In The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo and Mad Max: Fury Road, females have not continue their adverse relationship with male.On the contrary, they endeavor to grope for a harmonious coexistence mode with male,in which women can really enjoy their privileges as independent human beings. |
