Chinese film and television materials as a relatively new teaching means have been used in more and more international Chinese language teaching.The most prominent performance is that the Chinese film appreciation class join the ranks of Chinese Courses.By consulting relevant literature,we find that the researches on incidental vocabulary learning spread many aspects,such as reading,English subtitles,English film and television,listening exercises,multiple-choice,and classroom task design,etc.Research on incidental vocabulary learning of Chinese,however,is relatively few,most of which are centered on reading,and there is almost no research about the Chinese films and televisions used in the aspect of incidental vocabulary learning in Chinese.So this is a piece of virgin land to discover.The present paper is based on the assumption of the Involvement Load theory by Hulstijn and Laufer,with 10 university students studying Chinese for four semesters at Confucius Institute of Dodoma University in Tanzania as the research object.The present paper chooses the present popular TV series "Little Separation” as material content,designs a 90-minute television appreciation course in Chinese which is grouped by three different types of subtitle material,and then summarizes the common problems of Chinese film and television appreciation courses and the characteristics of the class type.The results are as follow.First,incidental vocabulary learning is complementary,and incidental vocabulary learning effect is not bad in intentional learning effect;Second,it is necessary to convert video subtitles to paper-based materials;Third,to give students the gestalt fills up the type of subtitles material is better than that of the complete subtitle;The output of the four is,paying attention to the students in class as the way which demands;Last,the Chinese film and television materials used in classroom teaching should be designed carefully,see and visit fortune-teller combining static to help film materials using international language classroom.
