A Study Of Almanac's Design Style Based On Illustration Of 24 Solar Terms

Known as Tong Shu in the past, almanac is an ancient category of book. After more than a thousand years of development, modern almanac has evolved in various forms, such as common and popular calendar, monthly calendar, annual calendar, desk calendar, wall calendar,farm calendar and Tung Shing in domestic market. As a carrier of the date information, it shows a strong characteristic of timeliness and popularity. It also reflects the feature of the times through special design and possesses a high collection value.Informatization is a present trend of the development, with which the popularity of the Internet enriches people's spiritual life and also affects people's habits of living and reading. As a product of the development of science and technology, electronic medium is challenging the position of traditional paper media as the mainstream of information carrier. Similarly, the emergence of electronic almanac impacts and challenges traditional almanac. What's more,people have been addicted to electronic products and has been used to a fragmentary way of shallow reading, which indicate the decreasing recognition of traditional calendar in China. As the essence of traditional Chinese culture, it still need to be further developed. Being exposed to the booming development of digital art design, it is particularly important to update the design concept timely.Almanac is common in nearly all people's daily life. Every year almanac is not the same in style, but the same in marking the society and history of each particular year. In a era of rapid development of electronic information technology, although facing the impact of electronic almanac, development opportunities brought by reader's increasing cultural awareness,social-economic mushroom growth and diversified material needs can not be underestimated.Almanac will be designed according to the needs of the times since reflecting the feature of times is its significant mission. After thousand years of evolving, modern almanac showed to people is brand new with more extensive content, more diversified design. Some are beautifully designed with unique cultural and artistic atmosphere, which are often collected by some collection lovers. At present, more and more people have begun to pay attention to collect all kinds of almanac. So the almanac has a high collection value which needs to be taken into account in the design.In this paper, the design of modern Chinese almanac is chosen as the object. Through investigating its design status, market performance and discussing the relationships between traditional paper carrier and modern digital carrier, outstanding design problems are analyzed;design of almanac with Eight Trigrams and 24 solar terms as elements is proposed, during which 24 solar terms are interpreted by Eight Trigrams' Yin and Yang rise and decrease theory.By mixing modern design art and traditional calendar culture, almanac's collection value and characteristics of the times are highlighted, making it more artistic and more convenient for reading with a view to improving its market value.
