This report aims to present the personal experience guided by the theory of Aesthetics of Reception in English-Chinese translation practice based on three chapters taken from the English novel First Comes Love,written by an American writer,Emily Giffin.This novel consists of relatively complete and independent stories containing lots of cultural elements,emotional expressions and wits of humor.In order to improve the translation quality and achieve readability of the text,the translator is motivated to seek some translation strategies from the perspective of Aesthetics of Reception in the translation practice.Aesthetics of Reception is a reader-oriented theory and requires translators to specify the indeterminacy and fulfill reader's expectations and finally achieve fusion of visions.The translator focuses on the ways to deal with the difficulties in practice,and tries to achieve three goals,namely the beauty of cultural appropriateness,the beauty of emotional expression and creative translation of humor.This report can be divided into the following four parts: task description,process description,case study and conclusion.The first part introduces main stories of this novel and its related backgrounds;The second part introduces the translation preparation and time schedule,the theory of Aesthetics of Reception as well as the theory applied in the translation practice,and finally carries out after-translation management.In the third part,the translator selects some difficulties in translation practice to discuss its feasibility and inadequacies from the perspective of Aesthetics of Reception with the method of comparative analysis.The last part is the conclusion on the translation experience,including summaries of practical translation skills and limitations of the study and suggestions for the future research.
