As Chinese education goes forward,children education has become the major task for each family,the whole country and the society.Children in this era have great curiosity and exploratory to this unknown world.Children's picture books are the first sort of reading materials that children come into contact with in their childhood.They are closely related to children's growth,psychological cognition and esthetic characteristic.The rich content,colorful pictures and wide range of materials have deep effect on children's thought and mentality.Picture books can not only inspire children's interests in reading,but also foster their imagination and creativity,and the consciousness on observing,thinking and creating.The paper,based on children's mentality and aesthetic,probes into the significance of material language to children's healthy growth and happy reading,by introducing current situation and function of material language in children's picture book.The paper is divided into four parts.Part one is introduction,which introduces the research background,purpose,methods and significance.Part two,based on the theories of connotation and characteristic of children's picture books,discusses the development,market situation and reader's mentality and aesthetic.Part three reveals the importance and significance of material language by introducing the various usages of different materials.Part four takes excellent children's picture books as examples to prove that it is material language that constructs the artistic conception on vision,touch,hearing,tasting and smelling.In conclusion,the author looks back on the whole research and provides more thinking for her fun creation and theory guidance.
