This paper is a critical discourse analysis of the Britain and the United States as the representative of the western media on the "The Belt and Road" strategy of news reports.President Xi Jinping visited countries in Central Asia and Southeast Asian and put forward the "Silk Road Economic Belt" and "twenty-first Century Maritime Silk Road " initiative.Then the strategic concept of " The Belt and Road " continually develops.Western news media have published a large number of critical articles.At the same time,there are few domestic studies on those English news reports.Critical discourse analysis is a kind of discourse analysis paradigm,which emerges in the field of western linguistics.It aims to reveal the hidden ideology in the mass media through the analysis of text,discourse practice and social practice.As a kind of mass media,news reports have been paid attention to by the critics.Therefore,this article will analyze the report by the use of CDA to find the implied ideology and reveal its social roots.This paper collected 13 English news reports from 7 wellknown media in British and American on the "The Belt and Road" strategy as the research object of critical discourse analysis.The three dimensional framework from Fairclough and Hallidy 's systemic functional linguistics will be used in this theory.The results prove that news discourse is not 100 percent true,containing a variety of orientations.By using certain linguistic approach,it creates a image of China as despotic power and describe "The Belt and Road " strategy as Chinese ambition to dominate the world.Therefore,this paper attempts to reveal the relationship of discourse and the implicit expression of ideology and power by textual analysis.Then through the analysis of discourse practice and social context,this paper will analyze orientations of international public opinion.
